ORIGINAL IMPASTO PALETTE KNIFE OIL PAINTING ON STRETCHED CANVAS, SIZES : 20 X 15 cm // 8 x 6 inches ( depth of the canvas : 2 cm // 0.80 inch ) – part of my Santorini series of paintings I started in 2010.
I painted this abstract cityscape after I was in Santorini in 2010 and for the second time in June 2017. I was inspired by the amazing sunset scene from Oia village in Santorini island, Greece. I am in love with the Santorinian village named Oia with it’s bright white houses, it’s blue churches’ domes and the stunning deep blue of the Aegean sea.
Oia sunset, Santorini sunset … there is something palpable about it’s breathtaking beauty … I felt I can touch the sun when I was there… I painted this work with this feeling in my soul – that I was there, where, if I wanted, I’d can touch the sun.

First time I visited the Greek island Santorini in 2010 and this summer ( in June 2017 ), after 7 years, I was again there to let my soul and eyes get inspiration of the beauty of this place.
This palette knife oil painting is part of my series ”Abstract cityscapes”. I started this series of abstract cities years ago it is a recurrent theme for me. I love to paint abstract cityscapes under bold, vivid, sometimes tormented skies – yellow, pink, purple, orange, red, blue, turquoise, even green skies, sometimes skies ”inhabited” by huge sun or full moon…
When I paint an abstract cityscape, I try to capture the essence of the subject, most an inner impression, a personal perception … The city is not rendered, but suggested into an abstract manner by splashes of vibrant colors and impasto palette knife strokes.
